Walleye Chase Past Events Results
Saturday, 1 May 2021, The Inaugural Season of the Walleye Chase, presented by The NWMI Fishing Club was off and running at Platte Lake, led by Cory Udell. On a cold and windy Saturday Morning, 16 anglers in 7 boat-teams searched hard and long for the elusive Platte Lake Walleye. 2 of these teams were local professional inland lake guides and the remaining 5 boats were amateur recreational fishing teams.
After 5 hours of hard jigging or trolling, only 1 team produced the only walleye caught that morning…and it was a monster. A 27.5”, 6-pound 4-ounce beauty was caught by Team “Wife’s Permission” lead by Craig and Bill Steward and anchored by Pete Povolo. This fish was caught in 2-foot waves with whitecaps spraying sheets of water like the old movie the Poseidon Adventure. This fish has them at the top of the season leader board with 5 more events to go.
No 2nd place could not be registered so that money will be migrated to the next event at Lower Herring Lake on 22 May 2021. Several teams took advantage of the “Bonus Fish” for a 10-point bonus. Nice pike and a nice Brown Trout were good to see.
Drawings were conducted for a $25 gift card to Franks Family Restaurant in Frankfort and a $20 gift card to Papanos Pizza in Beulah. Thanks for these great sponsors for the great chow after a great event. To top the morning off, and $80 payout was handed to a luck contestant for the 50/50 drawing as well. So, you see, this was not just a great fishing event, but all spectators and competitors had a chance to win great food or cash.
The Field of teams line up like this after 1 event:
Team “Wife’s Permission – 80 points. Payout was $280 and a mount of that Platte Lake Behemoth from Rosum Taxidermy in Benzonia valued at over $400.
Team Twisted Dipsy – 30 points
Team Gravel Lizard – 30 points
Team “The Reel People” – 30 points
Team Dennis the Menace – 30 points
Team Moxie – 20 points
Team Eyelander – 20 points
