Last night was perfect. Almost a full moon with plenty of time to operate underneath it (1030pm weigh in). 11 boats and 33 anglers participated which is not bad considering more than half our fleet is/was pre-fishing in Frankfort for the Benzie Fishing Frenzy.
A Big Thanks to Captain Walleye Kevin Craven for running the show, Matty Boy Marciniak for the Leader Board work and Chef Paul Vitous for his culinary perfection. A smooth machine per always.
We paid 5 places down the line and The Big Fish Side-bet as well. Let’s go through the winners:
1st Place: “Big Red” with Ethan Pilarski, Payden Myers, Dylan Grant and Taylor Cook with a monster box of 51.10lbs. ($222). They also brought in the Big Fish of the night with a 20.45lb king. ($200).
2nd Place: Team “Rough Draft” with Tom and Old Tommy Pecar, Brenda Mulder and no-stranger to the game Steve Haver bringing in 39.10 lbs for $111.
3rd Place: Danes Dirt Works got $79 for their 33.45lb box. With the Brazillian Pablo Gronzotto leading the way, Trever Danes and Landon Maddox made hay with a nice box.
4th Place: Tally Ho! Why didn’t they enter the Big Fish Side-Bet?!?! Coming in with a massive salmon, but no initial investment was heartbreaking for Andy Fitzhugh and Gary Lantz with a nice 31.6lb box ($63). But they took home a nice Life Preserver as their consolation prize to boot!
5th Place: Team Cook! Out
Of nowhere, they blazed into the money (and the $250 Dreamweaver Box Grand Prize) with 21.45 lbs. Their 1st Wednesday Nighter was a good one. ($53).
What a night!
Next Saturday morning, 31 August, we will have our final competition out Elmwood with the weigh-in and cook out at TCH Gear. Bring your wallet and/or your mortgage financing paperwork to the boat launch for that one. See you next Saturday.

Another great event for the NWMI Fishing Club Fishermen and what a way to finish the end of the scheduled event! Glad we moved this to a Saturday morning from our regular Wednesday Nighter (thanks for answering our survey).
Anyway, 48 anglers in 18 boats, and 6 anglers under 16. This will become an important detail later on in my summary. We paid 5 places down with a Big Fish side bet that every team entered. The morning started early with lines in at 0600, calm waters, warm and clear. Very quickly the salmon and lake trout started coming in and as expected, slowed down around 0800.
In 1st place, Team “Adventures with Smack” (Mack and Sully Karmon) were way out in front with 5 Kings weighing 77.20 lbs. That is a 15lb average. But get this…these are two guys, avid fishermen, club members…and they are 13 and 14 years old – no other adults in the boat. This is the stuff we are made of right here! They trolled J-plugs mostly and landed those nice salmon.
The crowd went wild let me tell you. Mack and Sully pulled in $289 for 1st place and a donated kicker for Big Box from Northern Michigan Tractor! You old crusty fishermen shall rue the day of the new breed coming along like this!
In 2nd place, Team “Big Red” with Ethan and Mark Pilarski and Dereck Becker pulling in 59.40 lbs worth $206.
In 3rd place, Team Twisted Dipsy (Matt Marciniak, Mark Lauret, and Tim Hossack) brought 44.90 lbs to the scale (3 salmon and 2 lake trout for $124). These guys deserve an award for wrestling in these 5 fish and quick-releasing the bigger ones. Wait, what? Yes, that happened.
In 4th place, “Team Wicked Tails” with Scott and Nick Greznerand Dave Rowbothan pulling in 38.70 lbs and $103. Scott also won the 2025 Season Pass to Elmwood Marina. Thanks to Dan and Jeff for making that happen!
In 5th place was “Team Catch ‘em all” with Nick and Tim Cook and 33.75 lbs and $103.
Big Fish went to jumpin' Joe Stringer with a nice #24.45 pound king, for a $360 payout! Great job Joe for netting that monster solo.
Gotta thank Gary and the crew at TCH Gear for hosting this event and the great surprise prizes and gift cards all season and cooking the excellent chow. Thanks to Mitch and Dave at A&M Bait for donating the food. These guys really made this a fun event.
We can't thank Shane over at Dreamweaver products for supplying the NWMI Fishing Club with 10+ awesome well thought out prize packages throughout the season. We look forward to strengthening our relationship next year.
Bay Area Painting donated a sweet lithium-Ion filet Knife for our raffle. These raffles are almost as popular as the leader board. Thanks Mark!
U&I Lounge provided gift card for great dining and Martell Electric have been great all season with their TCH Gift cards as well. (Thanks to all you Martell Guys that fish with us!)
Today was a big day for new members (2) and 5 renewals. This will keep us moving in the right direction.
