What started out as a normal Wednesday Nighter, turned into a change of events, no one could have foreseen. The perpetual winners did not pull it off tonight... and a bunch of new teams took over.  40 anglers in 16 boats is considered a major turnout.
3rd place went to Tyler Lindsey and his partner Joe for a $128 King weighing in at 16.75lbs.
2nd place went to Dave Acha and Michell Franklin for a lake trout bag of 2 fish weighing 19.50 lbs.  $192.
And 1st place went to the Matt and Andrew Bankey and Brent Major with a mixed bag of King and Laker weighing 25.45 lbs and garnering $320.  They also captured the big fish competition gathering another $280.
Well, we finally did it.  No, we (Twisted Dipsy) did not win in Frankfort. Nor place. Nor win the 50/50.  We finally got a beautiful Wednesday Night for winds and temperatures and it paid off with a huge turnout and a great spectator crowd as well.  Lets run through the winners.
3rd place with 72.95lbs and The Big Fish of the night (28.85lbs) were your very common winners of Team Still Jerkin - Brandon Aeschliman and Austin Scott. The took home another huge wad of cash ($211).
2nd place went to Team Just Cause with 89.30lbs.  Josh Keena, Alex Shocko and Team Captain Jenn Voice pulled out this huge win. Under Jenn'a  exacting scrutiny, direction and forceful guidance, this team is always on to watch and beat.  But not tonight.  They took home a sweet roll of ($317).
And unbelievably and miraculously, 1st place went to Team Fire Storm, captained by Theo Weber. Deck hands were Brian Kuhr and Jerry Wojo.  These guys.  Huh?  Wait-Theo and the boys?  They made it out of the harbor and back?  How did they do that?  Anyway, pulling in a gargantuan 96.50lbs, they stumbled and bumbled their way into a nice payday of ($528).  Huge congratulations to my salmon trolling school alumnus.  That degree really paid off tonight.
A big congratulations to teams Fire Storm, Just Cause, and Still Jerkin. Great to see all the winners and all the sportsman out there last night.
Next week will be another big water event on East Bay. Last year a participant brought in a 30 lber,  great fish, let's get another one. See you at Center road launch for another fantastic event!
A special thanks goes out to Noah Falk for his prize donations and his Salmon Net Pen donation as well. He is a generous giver and has been terrific in Club support. Thank him when you see him. Another special shout out goes to Christine at the Tackle Box in Frankfort for the kind and thoughtful donations of prizes for us to raffle off at last nights event as well, Christine, you are truly loved.
And one more shout out goes to the crew of 45th Outdoors, you guys have been great supporters all season, the raffles are surely appreciated.
Silver Lake event cancelled due to weather.

East Bay, commonly referred to as "Easy Bay" or "The Big Easy" lived up to its nickname last night.  After a blustery start, the bay calmed right down and gave up a bunch of nice salmon, lakers, and cisco.  Lets run through the top spots.
1st Place:  went to Team Never
Late which includes Dave Acha, Zack Perry and Keith Plake. 2 Kings and 1 Laker pushed them into 1st with 23.45lbs, garnering them $384 for the night.  After a calamity of errors, this well-experienced team pulled off a close win.
2nd place:  went to Team Schultz Time which includes Scott and Jay Schultz and Jake Beck.  This was a great placement with only 1 fish...a nice 21.40lb King, which was good for 2nd place and Big Fish of the night.  Team Schultz walked away with $230 for 2nd place and $240 for The Big Fish side bet.  Oddly and a "wouldn't you know it kind of moment", the monster came on their way in to the weigh in.  Made a great night for Team Schultz.
3rd place:  Team Firestorm (Theo Weber, Gerry Wojanoski, and Brian Kuhr) snuck in a King and a Laker weighing 18.35lbs and snagging $153.
A great night for the club as well with 18 boats and 50 fishermen.  (2 kids, which was great to see).
Great raffle prizes as well with a huge thanks to our sponsors:
Bonobo Winery for a 6-person wine tasting
Bramer Auto Supply (Napa) with gift certificates
U&I Lounge for gift certificates
Noah Falk for reels, filet knives, and flashers.
Next week:  West Bay, Elmwood.  See you all there!

There we were, battling 2 footers, whitecaps and a slashing spray. Crystal Lake was angry. 9 boats and 26 anglers tried to tame the beast and and bring real weight to the scale.
As per yooshg, Team Twisted Dipsy (Sean, Paul, Mark and Tim) had the blessed finger of Neptune on them again with a 7.25lb laker.  Clean livin and "mouths held right" were credited to just beat out the Acha Boys by .2lbs.   It was glorious.  This is Twisted Dipsy's 5th win and the train keeps rollin.  (Lake Cadillac, Platte, West Bay, Glen, and now Crystal)
For the panfish division, Brandon Aeschliman and Austin Scott snuck in again and bested Team Woebbeking (Charlie, Sara, and Jacob) by .05lbs with 6.55lbs of rock bass.  This is Brandon and Austins 3rd win (East Bay, West Bay, and now Crystal).  Out of nowhere, with no commotion, they continue to throw da hamma and make huge impacts.
On a side note, Charlie is one of the few elite, certified and pedigreed salmon school graduates (myself and Theo Weber as well), but his degree did not pay off tonight.
Other highlights of the night were the nice Rainbows brought in.  The Benzie Boyz (Keegan, Hunter and Tyler) with a 4.45lber, Twisted Dipsy with a 3.75 beauty.  Kyle, Chris and Ben (Fishing the 45th YouTube Channel) with a pathetic ugly fish at 2.95 lbs.
Great turn out, 2 renewals and 1 new member signed up.  Thanks for the chow and pops Mike!   We look forward to Frankfort next week.

Last night was wild and wooly.  The wind forecast of decreasing was absolutely wrong and increased.  By the time we came in is was 18mph out of the SW with what had to be 4' rollers with whitecaps. Lesson learned...cancel early.
Anyhow, there were plenty of over-enthusiastic crazies out there like me.  I keep good company.  66 fishermen in 20 boats is a new record for a Wednesday Nighter.
So this is what happened.  The King is dead, but long live the King.  Me, you know, being the King.
1st place - Team "Chasin' Dreams" with Rich Kerr, Jason Dobson, and Dave Martin.  48.95lbs for $528.  This peachy team wears the Crown Royal. If you know, you know.
2nd place - Team "Fish Tank" with Evan And Tanner Kidder and Ethan Hromek.  43.35lbs for $316.  The combined age of these 3 fishermen is right around 30 total years...compared to my team coming in at 200 years.
3rd place - unbelievably, went to Team "45th Outdoors" with Ben Street, and Chris Huttenga. They lucked into a few stragglers with 31.3lbs for $211.
Big Fish went to Team "Fish Faced" with Jake, Don, Jordan and Lane and lastly, very lastly, Charlie Woebbeking.   A monster 28.9lber winning $380!   Charlies' PHD from the Grand Rapids College of Common Knowledge paid off well.
A big thanks to Dionne Beelman.  She was thrown into the booth guard (voluntarily I might add) and ended up scoring the biggest event ever in NWMI Fishing Club history.  Thank you Dionne, you are hired.
A special shout out to Christine over at the The Tackle Box in Frankfort for the grand prize Raffle of a Tackle bag with a $50 Gift Card, Thanks again Tackle box.
Next event Silver Lake.  A quiet calm summer time cane pole and bobber evening with a lemonade chiller will be well appreciated.
